๐ A Series of the Curve-billed Thrasher's daily routine and antics can be viewed in my "Desert Birds Collection." Their story. ๐
๐ ๐ Janet Marie, you won a WOWIE! This awesome image has been chosen as one of the William's Wows found in the discussions tab of the group, Wild Birds Of The World. ~Thanks William ๐ ๐
We have many Sonoran Desert dwellers, who have made our home, their home. The Sonoran Desert Curve-billed Thrasher (toxostoma curvirostre) is common in our desert garden of joy.
The Curve-billed Thrasher that lives in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona and northwestern Mexico looks different than the form that lives in the Chihuahuan Desert of Texas and central Mexico, and they may be separate species.
It is so interesting and amusing, to see them go about their daily routine and antics. Here is one of those moments. In trying to get away from me, I guess they get desperate. Because here it lands atop a stem of the Jumping Cholla Cactus. They have some mean thorns. The curve-billed thrasher is not oohing and ahhing, but it has to be thinking, "My Feet Are Killing Me!" I will never complain about my shoes again.

What a lovely bird, beautiful!
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you Gu Scarlet for visiting my gallery of work and sharing wonderful comment. The curve-billed thrasher is a most interesting bird. They visit and nest at my home, that sits on an acre of natural, lush, Sonoran Desert vegetation. It was trying to get away from me, and this cholla cactus was stickery choice indeed.
Jasna Dragun
This is a wonderful shot and the title. l/f
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you Jasna. It was a fun time and challenging to photograph this curve-billed thrasher.

The antics of the desert birds that visit my home is quite humorous and amazing. Thank you Debby for your visit and comment about my bird photography. I really appreciate that and sharing on Twitter.
Jerry Bokowski
What a great shot this is Janet of the curve-billed thrasher. Itโs amazing how these birds can stand on these thorny cactus thorns that are so sharp they would penetrate shoe leather. They must feel very safe in their homes because what predator would want to risk being impaled trying to get into their nest. Beautiful composition, lighting and perspective. Promoting this in the art group, Beauty of Arizona. Liked/Faved/FB

Wonderful nature study.
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you Terence for taking the time to stop by my gallery and share such a nice comment about "My Feet Are Killing Me!" I really appreciate that. I am not so sure I would call it a nature study, as this curve-billed thrasher wasn't stickling around to long for me to photograph him. He was flying from place to place to get away from me, landing on the top of this jumping cholla cactus near my home. It was a truly a "standing in the right place at the right time" moment.
Nieves Egelkraut

Thank you Walter for visiting and leaving such a great comment. They sing the sweetest tune. It's a great feeling when you can get it right with birds. Not initially what I was aiming for. It kept landing on everything. Stayed stilled for a moment, using my long lens. I appreciate the visit!

Amy! It is just so sweet of you to visit my gallery and choose to comment on some of my photography. Thank you so much for that! The curve-billed thrasher does have a stern look about it all the time, especially from a profile view. I am delighted to know that you love this shot and the story behind the photography. This wasn't easy to get, but worth all the effort. Jerry and I are having a fabulous year so far, and my desert paradise is always a pleasure, but more so in the spring and wet summer. Looking forward to that! ๐Janet

If you have ever brushed a cholla you and your nerves will never forget it!!!!
Janet Marie replied:
I never get close to the Jumping Cholla Cactus or also called Chain Fruit, as they have toothpick size spines, also the Teddy Bear Cholla Cactus. But what falls on the ground is what gets me. And you can not pull them off with your hands. If I am in my own desert acre, I use tongs to remove them. I have had my stupid moments of wearing my flip flops. This was shot with my 300 mm lens. Now I have a new Nikon with a lens that will zoom 2000 mm. I have been poked, stuck, and filled with glochids, hair-like spines or prickles, that are barbed, from a prickly pear cactus. They are the worst. Thank you for visiting and sharing your thoughts. I truly appreciate the support. Janet ๐
