Description
This painting was done on crumpled Unryu (mulberry) paper mounted onto 300 lb watercolor paper. I love playing with Asian papers--their textures and increased absorbency force me to adapt and get out of my comfort zone. I began by painting lightly in watercolor on the back of the crumpled, unmounted paper. I then mounted the transparent paper on 300 lb watercolor paper, and when the glue dried, began painting general shapes and colors using watercolor, with no particular subject in mind. Magically, a dragonfly started to appear, and I gradually added watercolor details to enhance the image. I did a few final touches in gouache.

Love, love, LOVE this dragonfly painting…Magic…sheer MAGIC! I did a Neurographic rendering for my husband’s Anniversary card this year…with dragonflies…they spend most of their lives underwater, emerging as drab creatures, until they spread their wings and fly into the LIGHT in their radiant beauty, mesmerizing ALL.
