Description
A close-up view of the vibrant yellow, daisy-like flowers with prominent orange centers of the Brittlebush dominates the frame. Petals radiate around the brownish-orange centers, giving each bloom a cheerful appearance, and a sure sign that spring is upon the deserts of the American Southwest.
Brittlebush is a heat-loving shrub with 1-1/2 inch wide flowers that rise on slender stems above the foliage in March through May across its range. This range includes southern Utah and Nevada, southern and western Arizona and southern California, down into Baja California, Sinoloa and Sonora, Mexico. At maturity the plant can be three or more feet tall, and four to five feet around, even more when covered with these delightful flowers.
