Customer Question - How Do I Answer This?

Customer emailed me this question: They want to purchase a sticker on FAA of one of my designs. They are asking what the measurements would be of one specific element of the design within the sticker because they want to cut it out and apply it to a project they are making. I don't have any idea how to get that information. If I direct them to FAA customer support would they be able to answer this? Thank you. :)

Hi Joseph,

You could try Customer Service - But - I am thinking they will not know because there are 4 different sizes of stickers -

The printer would most likely need to print all four sizes and then measure that element and get back to CS with their findings.

That is not going to happen -

It would be inexpensive for the customer to purchase and find out for themselves.

I have no idea how one could answer that. I suppose there would be math involved. Maybe they can give you the measurement, you can then put your image in photoshop in different sizes that are the sticker sizes we have, then measure the item with the ruler photoshop has. I wouldn't work too hard on it, its not a high profit. My guess is that between the sizes we have, it will never be right.

This is purely a guess, but at the same time, it seems obvious to me when I think about it.

I think the image's longest side will be the entire length of the sized sticker they select, less the 1/8" border around the perimeter. So you are losing 1/4" total on the longest size to the border. The largest sticker is 6"x6", but subtracting the border will make it 5 3/4"

The short side will vary according to the ratio of the image.

That may be enough info to make them happy.

I suppose maybe you can ask what part they want, and make just that one part for them, put it on the largest sticker so you can get a profit of some kind. Still sounds like a lot of work for what it is.

You know the sticker size and just guesstimate the space that elements takes up. More than half? less than half? More than a quart, but less than half? etc.

Doesn't seem all that hard to figure it out.

Bring the sticker here up on your screen.
Take a tape measure or ruler.
Adjust screen zoom til it matches the real sticker dimension.
Measure element in question.

Assuming they know what size they want the element to be:

1. Tell them to order the nearest corresponding sticker size.
2. Use the custom size option to zoom in on the image until the element fills the sticker. It will now be 3 inches or whatever.
3. If they need an in between size, they will have to estimate (ie, 1-1/2” would be 1/2 of a 3” sticker).
4. Order
5. Remember to tell them thanks.

Thank you everyone for the ideas! I appreciate it. I replied to the customer and I did thank them too. :)
