Little Dogs

Little dogs. There is something about having a little dog ; as a portrait artist for pets I have noticed that little dogs definitely is my largest audience . Watching an elderly woman the other nite with her very tiny little dog touched my heart so deeply. Their relationship was very real and necessary for both of them. They depended on one another. Every dog I have ever owned was a big dog, working dogs, the kind that go out in the pasture looking for the most disgusting thing they can roll in and come home and want you to pet and love on them. The woman I was talking about obviously gave her little dog regular baths and even had little clothes. I have never really understood that , it had never truly dawned on me until I took the time out to watch and discover something about such a relationship. I thank the Lord for bringing my attention to the little lady with the tiny dog, I will never see little dogs the same again. https://render.fineartamerica.com/images/rendered/share/40120267&domainId=1

I agree Cat! Little dogs are awesome! We are relatively new to being "dog people". Rescued a little maltipoo and fell in love. Adopted two more little dogs after that. My sister owns BIG dogs and while they are very sweet, there is something about little dogs that make them seem more like our "babies". :-)

Your link up above does not work, so I'll embed your image here. People can click on it and be taken properly to its page.

But I still can't believe you left Texas!!! (I was born, raised, and continue to reside in this awesome Lone Star state)

Donna, thank you so much, I have been having trouble doing this since I began on FA. I love Texas, most of my folk live there. We are in Oklahoma now moved there this last year, it was the closest we could get to get back home... thank you so much for helping me out... I really would like to figure this thing out... God bless

My little dog thinks he is a big dog. Being a terrier, he seems to like taking the first move in any encounter. Chipmunks and squirrels and anything small that moves are his arch enemies.

Little dog owner / little old lady here ... sooo ...

We had Samoyeds ... but as my son left for college, I said to my husband ... I need something to mother. Either get me a little dog, or let's have another baby.

We got a little dog. Maltese.

First Peachie and now Buddy.

They are such a joy!!!!

My littlest doggie is an English bulldog, I have a bull mastiff who I consider little because she was the runt, and we have an adorable little Rottie female. Well not so little as she is 14 months old and almost 100 pounds.

Unfortunately, I don't have any pets right now. But one of my best friends does, and, after she lost one of her two little dogs (the white one on the right) I painted this portrait of her dogs for her:

We had two big bulldogs. Then a terrier mix (mother was a Jack Russell and we think daddy was a red fox!).

I couldn't stand little dogs. Yappers. Trouble makers. Biters.

Then I started fostering and the last two were little dogs. The last one, a chihuahua of all breeds! chose my husband as her Hu-man. They are the typical stereotype: Big Old Man with the Tiny dog!

Since he works a lot I, of course, take care of her. And yes, she has stolen my heart. And because I also tend to get cold easily as she does, I have bought her sweaters and a winter coat.

However, she still embarrasses and infuriates me when she shows out with that "Big Dog Syndrome" when we're in public and another dog is around!

Rubio came into our lives a couple of years ago and filled a huge hole left in our hearts by the passing of our two other dogs Rusty and Raton about 8 years ago. we are grateful every day to have him in our lives. He keeps us smiling from sunup to bedtime with his wit and character.

IF we all concentrate hard enough, maybe Abbie will make this into an approved image thead. :O)

Edward Fielding yes, Terriers are famous for that, had a blue heeler that would go out in the wheat field and kill skunks and you know what happens when dogs and skunks collide... she was not welcomed in the house, a true barn dog, but how I loved her spirit.

Kathy , wow a red fox... I would have loved to have seen that combination... my husband had a friend whose bird dog had an encounter with a coyote , the dog looked just like a coyote and turned out to be one of the best bird dogs he ever had... These things do happen. loved reading your comment , thank you

You tugged at my heart strings with the mention of dogs. I've had a German Shephard, English Setter, and a "snoodle". The English Setter was an outside dog the majority of the time. She followed my sons everywhere and loved them to bits. My little "snoodle" was with me for 16 years. He was an inside dog the majority of the time. I don't own a dog now, but I've met 45 dogs since I started walking 3 miles every day a year ago! I love them all! They like the peanut butter banana treats! He had a little bit of an attitude, loved watermelon, cheese, and bacon (very rare treats for him though), and was even used to my camera! Here is an abstract of my little fella.

This is a very powerful image to me and it sure hurts the heart too!
Animals will always have a special place in my heart. If you are looking for unconditional love, someone who will always be there for you, a best friend for life, someone who will make you laugh and smile! Visit your local shelter or rescue group and adopt your next best friend. They are waiting for you.

These are three of my little dog paintings, Barry the Pomeranian, about Sophie a Chihuahua and Oscar the Australian Silky Terrier. I paint dogs only for custom orders, so I dont have as many as cats. I made recently another about 4 Yorkshires but it will be a surprise birthday gift in November, so yet hidden in my Dog Painting Collections. I will show when is out, I think it turned out great.
I have now in a queue a Airedale Terrier and two Westies to paint.

I like mutts because they are unpredictable and full of spunk. This is a digital painting I made from a photo I took of two of my dogs when they were toddlers and enjoying a warm summer day in the tall grass. They had all but romped themselves out when I grabbed my camera to get some shots. Brother was resting but little sissy was getting ready to pounce when she noticed me taking pictures and I got this incredibly rare posed shot. Two seconds later they exploded into a ball of playful energy again that can only be caught on video. The two pups in this image are a mixture of Pug, Corgi, Boston terrier and Queensland blue heeler.
