Good link, Frank.
I did the content thing for nearly 20 years until I decided to slow down and semi retire. It was lucrative enough that I was able to safely take early retirement from being a classroom teacher 13 years ago.
I created a series of travel/destination sites for the city in which we lived and a few places we vacationed. I monetized that well with affiliate marketing. My first affiliate sale was in June of 1999. It was a travel book/guide to Baltimore, MD - sold by Barnes & Noble Booksellers. I stared doing online hotel reservation (referrals) before most hotel chains even had their own websites. Of course that landscape has changed dramatically.
I still have a few sites in that market but sell very few hotel reservations these days. Most of my content is now monetized with advertising - the majority of which is Google's AdSense product. I first signed up with Adsense in November 2003. My first monthly revenue check arrived in January 2014 and have never stopped.
Good times for sure - but it took a lot of "time" to make it "good times." Now I am taking more time for my wife and me to do more fun things. And enjoying my art photography - a lot.
So, yeah, that article has salient points. It rally can and does work. But keep in mind it still takes work - a LOT of work - to do well. Sort of like marketing and selling here at FAA.
As usual, YMMV.
