This closeup/macro image captures a single white bloom on one the Encore Azaleas in our garden here in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. Encore Azaleas are so named because they bloom repeatedly starting mid-Spring and continue until the first frost in late September or early October. The individual blooms are smaller than most other varieties and have a ruffled appearance that to a photographer's eye reveals shadows, valleys, and wrinkles in general that give each mottled bloom a unique and striking appearance. Because they bloom so profusely, individual blooms can get lost in the riot of color and texture. For that reason I chose to isolate this single bloom and highlight its character with a dark background. For the curious, the bloom was captured with an iPhone 14 Pro using the Camera+ App in Macro mode and isolated using one of Apple's built-in photo editing features. The resulting image was fine-tuned with Topaz Studio and the background was added using Corel's Paintshop Pro 2023.
