Blue Jays [aka Jaybirds] are found extensively across the eastern and central portions of the US and are in the same family as the Crow.
They aren’t actually blue. The pigment in their feathers is actually brown but scattering light in parts of the feathers causes us to see the blue coloration.
Blue Jays have the ability to mimic the calls of hawks and uses that call to warn or trick other species of birds.
They form monogamous relationships that can last multiple breeding seasons usually staying with a single mate until one of them dies.
Blue Jays are omnivores but mostly feed on vegetation, berries and nuts.
