Description
A vintage Swedish movie poster of ''Today We Live'', a 1933 American war drama film directed by Howard Hawks, with a screenplay by William Faulkner, Edith Fitzgerald, and Dwight Taylor. The film is notable for its cast, which includes Joan Crawford, Gary Cooper, and Robert Young.
The movie is set during World War I and revolves around the lives of a group of British soldiers and the women they love. Joan Crawford plays Diana, a spirited and independent young woman who is in love with Captain Ronnie Boyce-Smith, portrayed by Robert Young. However, Ronnie is already engaged to Diana's best friend, Clarissa (played by Heather Angel). When Ronnie is sent off to fight in the war, Diana decides to join the war effort as an ambulance driver to be closer to him.
While serving in France, Diana meets and falls for an American aviator named Bogard (played by Gary Cooper), who is stationed nearby. As Diana becomes torn between her feelings for Bogard and her loyalty to Ronnie, the characters' lives are further complicated by the harsh realities of war.
"Today We Live" explores themes of love, sacrifice, and the impact of war on personal relationships. The film is known for its romantic and dramatic elements, as well as its portrayal of the challenges faced by those on the home front during a time of conflict.
Despite being released during the early 1930s, a period not typically associated with war films, "Today We Live" offers a unique perspective on World War I and the emotional struggles of its characters. Joan Crawford's performance as the headstrong Diana is particularly noteworthy, and the film remains an interesting piece of cinematic history.
