A vintage movie poster of ''The French Connection'', a 1971 American crime thriller film directed by William Friedkin. The film is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Robin Moore, which details the real-life efforts of New York City detectives to dismantle a major heroin smuggling operation.
The story centers on Detective Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle, portrayed by Gene Hackman, and his partner Detective Buddy "Cloudy" Russo, played by Roy Scheider. The two detectives are part of the NYPD's Narcotics Bureau and become obsessed with tracking down and apprehending a French heroin trafficker named Alain Charnier, played by Fernando Rey. Charnier's smuggling operation brings heroin into the United States from France, and Doyle and Russo are determined to stop him.
