The film is based on the novel of the same name by Pierre Louÿs and is known for its sensuality and Bardot's captivating performance.
The story revolves around Séverine Serizy, played by Brigitte Bardot, a beautiful and alluring young woman who becomes the object of desire for a wealthy and obsessive Spanish nobleman, Don Mateo Diaz, portrayed by Antonio Vilar. Séverine initially rejects his advances but later becomes entangled in a passionate and tumultuous relationship with him.
