The Carlyle hotel was built in 1939, and is one of the Tropical Art Deco jewels on Ocean Drive in South Beach. This was originally shot on black and white film in the 1990s and digitally edited to produce this split-toned image.

Award-winning photographer Steven Paul Hlavac grew up on Long Island, New York. He studied photography and graphic arts at the University of Buffalo and at Florida State University in Tallahassee, receiving his BA degree in Art from FSU. Steven opened his first photo studio in 1986 at what is now Art Center South Florida in the Lincoln Road Arts District of South Beach (Miami). Within several years, Steven began exhibiting his artwork on a regular basis, at the same time running a commercial photo studio. He quickly gained a reputation as an emerging artist as well as a creative fashion, portrait, and nightlife photographer.
