A high key portrait of a red crowned crane in winter at the Kushiro marshlands on the island of Hokkaido in Japan. These cranes, also called Manchurian cranes or Japanese cranes, are large East Asian cranes and are among the rarest cranes in the world. In some parts of its range, they are known as a symbol of luck, longevity, and fidelity.
I guess I've had an off-and-on love affair with photography my whole life. My father was always taking pictures and movies when I was a kid growing up on Long Island, NY in the 1950s-60s, and he gave me my own Kodak Brownie camera when I was around 6 years old. I remember using it to take pictures of family events and a trip to Washington DC, back in 1958. I still have some of the pictures ....... somewhere. Photography moved to the back burner during high school, college, and law school, but I picked it up again after I graduated law school in 1979, moved to Washington DC, and began my legal career with the federal government.
