The red Poppy Anemone (Anemone coronaria), also called Spanish Marigold and Windflower, is a perennial plant that is native to the Mediterranean region, and blooms in the late winter and spring. the red blooms resemble poppy flowers, and that is why this plant is called Poppy Anemone. In Hebrew the flower is called "Kalanit", which is derived from the Hebrew word for "bride", because of the beauty of a bride on her wedding day. Anemone coronaria is the National Flower of Israel. This plant is seen throughout the Middle East.
These red Anemone coronaria flowers growing wild in open fields along the road were photographed in the Beit Arif Valley, Israel, on 2-4-2019. Shlomo Waldmann, an Israeli bird photographer and guide, brought me to this location. I used a Nikon D850 camera body and a Nikon 500mm f/4.0E FL ED VR2 telephoto lens to capture this image. Settings: 1/1000 sec, f/6.3, ISO 450.
