Description
Pompidou Centre. Exterior view of part of the Pompidou centre in Paris, France, a building cons- tructed of steel and glass. The building, fully known as the Centre National d'Art et de Culture Georges Pompidou, is built in the modernist archi- tectural style and is notable for the pipes and walkways on its exterior. It houses exhibitions of modern art, an electronic music centre, a large public reference library and a centre for industrial design. The building was instigated by the French president Georges Pompidou and designed by Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano who were British and Italian respectively. The Centre was opened in 1971. Photographed in 1996.
