Description
He never left his post even while others were flying around him. This Port Canaveral resident scratched and preened constantly. Watching him curiously, I noticed that he looked pretty scruffy. He was molting. He had a big bald spot on his neck. I saw that he kept pulling out loose feathers on his belly, too.
Pelicans are "synchronous molters -- they change their feathers all at once in a period as short as two weeks, but sometimes stretching over a month. During this period, they cannot fly. A male bird usually molts into his most colorful plumage prior to the breeding season. Many of his companions were already decked out in pretty bright new and colorful feathers.

Nice contrasting colors in the bird on the blue background. And the drawing is solid. Nice! LF
