Tucked away in the shade of my cherry tree, a male Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) feeds his mate a tiny morsel with great tenderness, strengthening their bond in Springtime. I had always heard about this Cardinal courtship ritual, but never saw it until 2023. Northern Cardinals are monogamous and mate for life.
