Description
A few years ago I spent a good deal of time in the Asian Avery at the Miami Zoo. This Chestnut-breasted Malkoha (Phaenicophaeus curvirostris) is a species of cuckoo would often follow me around and I would talk to it and it would sit and listen, some days it followed for hours. These cuckoos are in the Cuculidae family. Found in Southeast Asia from Myanmar through to eastern Java, the Philippines and Borneo, it is a large cuckoo measuring up to 19 inches with grey and dark green upper-parts and chestnut underparts, and a large curved pale upper mandible. The male and female are similar in plumage. Unlike many cuckoos, it builds its nest and raises its own young.

Thank you Karen!! One of my favorite birds to work with, extreme smart and watchful of what people were doing.
