Description
The Milky Way dominates the night skies above telescopes atop Kitt Peak, 55 miles southwest of Tucson, Arizona. Kitt Peak is the home of the National Observatory featuring over 20 optical telescopes and 2 radio telescopes in the clear, southwest air at the 6,883 summit. The giant McMath-Pierce Solar Telescope is silhouetted at the far left.
Kitt Peak is a sacred site for the Tohono O'odham Nation and has been leased from the Nation in perpetuity since 1958.
