Description
Hyacinth macaws (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus) performing a courtship ritual. These parrots are predominantly monogamous and extremely vocal and playful during their courtship. They also use vocalisation in order to protect their territory. The hyacinth macaw is the largest parrot in the world, reaching a length of one metre with a 1.5 metre wingspan. It feeds on nuts, which it cracks open with its powerful bill, as well as fruits and other plant material. It inhabits wetlands and riverside forest edges in central South America. Photographed in the Pantanal, Brazil.
