Description
Hantavirus warning sign. The sign on the window of the door warns of Hantavirus contamination in an old guard hut at a nuclear museum site. This virus is also known as the sin nombre virus (SNV). Several hantaviruses cause disease in humans. They can be fatal if they progress to either hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) or haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS). The virus is spread to humans via rodent droppings and urine. This hut is at the EBR-I (Experimental Breeder Reactor No. 1) site near Arco, Idaho, USA, which has been turned into a museum. Photographed in July 2015.
