Description
I was out for a walk during a snowstorm when I discovered this holly. Holly is an evergreen that last throughout the winter season. The bright red berries made a nice contrast against the snow. out the winter season. The bright red berries made a nice contrast against the snow. It was snowing too hard and the first images were blurred. So I made a point to return after the snowstorm to capture a closeup of the holly.
During the dark days of winter, the bright red berries of the evergreen holly symbolized the enduring nature of life. The Druids regarded holly as a symbol of fertility and eternal life, thought to have magical powers. As an evergreen, holly reminds us of our inner strength and endurance.
In popular culture. Harry Potter’s wand is made of holly to help him on his spiritual quest. This is based on the idea that druids wore holly in their hair to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck. The genus name ilex was originally the Latin name for evergreen oak, Quercus ilex, also known as holm (holly) oak.
I hope the contrast of the colorful red berries against the waxy evergreen brings you joy through out the seasons! This works as stationery, wall art and home décor.
