Description
"Gilpin House No. 3" is an original watercolor, and one in a series of paintings, featuring the farmhouse of Quaker Gideon Gilpin at the time of the Battle of the Brandywine in chadds Ford, PA, in September 1777. The battle was the largest number of soldiers of the Revolutionary War, with the American forces led by General George Washington pitted against the British and Hessian forces led by General William Howe. The wounded Marquis de Lafayette was carried and treated here before he helped lead the eventual retreat of American forces.

Elizabeth, thank you for your kind comments. Color and light are important in my work. I've painted and explored color and light for a very long time. Although I have a variety of paints and paper, I tend to frequently use DaVinci and American Journey paints, and Arches and Kilimanjaro watercolor papers. Like almost everyone, I also enjoy using Daniel Smith watercolors. They all work well for me.
