Description
Colourful illustration of a Eurasian nuthatch.
Drawn using one of my own photographs as reference, this drawing was created by hand using archival ink pens on Bristol board and coloured using alcohol markers. I took the reference photo for this nuthatch in the New Forest National Park in England.
Eurasian nuthatches (Sitta europaea), also known as the wood nuthatch are a small and widespread passerine bird found across Europe and parts of Asia. There are many subspecies of the Eurasian nuthatch, the ones we see here in England are the western variety with lovely bright orange underparts. These birds have beautiful blue upper feathers, a long bill with a black stripe that covers from the bill to across the eye and white cheeks.
