Description
The CPAWS volunteers prepared really nice sandwich wraps for lunch so I did not have to leave the source of inspiration for any sustenance. I did move to paint from the top, east end of the Grande Chute Bridge though. I felt the gentle breeze would be enough to keep the biting insects from zeroing in on me. I also liked the winding view down the Dumoine River chaos toward where it curled to the southwest and the Class One rapids. I also enjoyed the afternoon lighting. My favourite swimming hole with the back eddy was just behind the characteristic rock shapes on the west bank of the Grande Chutes.
Aside from the bugs, I was all alone on the bridge. ZEC Dumoine residents seemed surprised to discover a plein air painter on the bridge. My presence might have been a bit of a shock after they made the sharp turn westward on to the worn and crumbling planks that helped to tie the road surface together. I met trappers, fisher-people and lots of canoeists as well. Once again I forgot to scratch my signature into the oil paint after completing this painting en plein air. I must have been very embroiled in the moment. I was still not wearing my reading glasses when I painted. One does not want to see too much detail when painting eh plein air.
