Description
Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) grooming each other. Mutual grooming such as this helps to reinforce relationships within a group. Chimpanzee communities may contain up to around 100 individuals, loosely divided into family groups. The chimpanzee inhabits the forests and forest edges of central and western Africa. It is omnivorous, eating fruit, leaves, termites, birds, small mammals, birds' eggs and honey. It is also highly communicative and has a huge range of facial expressions, vocalisations and gestures. It has been shown that chimpanzees' learning abilities are similar to those of young human children.
