Description
A large number of South Dakota's most popular travel destinations are found among the Black Hills just south of Rapid City. Many of these landmarks and natural wonders are located among some of the most improbable places. And one of the biggest surprises is a highway among the jagged pinnacles of Cathedral Spires.
Th Needles Highway, a 14 mile route, winds through six rock tunnels, among towering granite pinnacles and over pine covered mountains. The granite rock formations in this area also include Mt. Rushmore, Harney Peak, and the Needle's Eye. Covered in ponderosa pine, spruce, and jagged granite rocks, many climbers come to this area to attempt climbing the unique rock formations of Cathedral Spires.
