Benjamin Matthew Victor (Taft, California, 16 January 1979) is an American sculptor who lives and works in Boise, Idaho. He the only living artist to have three works in the National Statuary Hall at the United States Capitol. He is currently sculpting his fourth statue for the Statuary Hall, of Daisy Bates. He was just 26 years old when his first statue, Sarah Winnemucca, a Paiute activist in Nevada, was inaugurated at the Hall in 2005, making him the youngest artist ever represented at the Hall. In 2014, his sculpture of Norman Borlaug, "the father of the Green Revolution", was consecrated at the National Statuary Hall, and in 2019, his statue of Chief Standing Bear, a Native American rights leader, was consecrated at the National Statuary Hall, making him the only living artist with three sculptures in the hall.
Benjamin Matthew Victor was born in 1979 in Taft, California. He grew up in Bakersfield. After high school, he lived for a while in Las Vegas, Nevada. He studied art and sculpture at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Victor's first work to gain attention was a life-size sculpture of the biblical character Samson, sculpted when the artist was a sophomore art student at Northern State University. The piece earned Victor a fellowship "in recognition of his aesthetic and conceptual integrity" from the prestigious National Sculpture Society in New York City. At the age of 23, Victor was commissioned to produce his proposal of a trio of soldiers for the Aberdeen Regional Airport War Memorial in South Dakota.
Victor has completed numerous commissions from cities, institutions and non-profit organisations for public artworks.
