Description
Austin Threadgills Nostagia - This was the previous home of Austin Threadgills Restaurant and music venue in downtown Austin. Eddie Wison the owner of Theadgills had a hugh selections of memorabilla from the Amardillo World Headquarters day in Austin along with many big name musician who play at Threadgills and Armadillo! The orginal restaurant on North Lamar which is now out of business today. This is the image of Kenneth Threadgill with Janis Joplin which hang over the juke box as she played at the Threadgills tavern back in the 60 and 70s when Janis sang on wednesday for blues night. The bar was a country music bar, but on wednesday they had open mic night where Janice would sing the blues. Kenneth Threadgill took a liking to her and became a mentor of sorts. Eddie Wilson who was peviously with the Armadillo World Headquarters bought the tavern in the late 1979 and open up the restaurant. That why he had all this wonderful memorbilla from back then which he brought into the restaurant. It is a mix of memorbilla from the Threadgills Tavern and the Armadillo Headquarters. For me it was stroll down memory lane when Austin was still a small unique city. This old juke box has over 100 song by musicians that played at the Dillo or Amardillo World Headquarters back in the day. It was sad they were closing this place for they had such wonderful things from the early years of Austin! Those were the days where the term came from Music Capitol of the World. You can see on the walls all the musicians that had played in Austin at the Dillo along with Threadgills orginal location on North Lamar. In the Threadgills restaurant downtown location they had a piano hanging from the ceiling that had been played by a very different group of artist such as Count Basie and Commander Cody, Jerry Lee Lewis and Ray Charles, Leon Russell and Captain Beefheart at the Armadillo. Threadgills played a role in linking Austin past to it current times, but with the closing of this restaurant most of the things here were auction off. This is just one of many images that we took before the final closing of the place for a piece of history that will now only be in my memories. All the locations for Threadgills restaurant have now closed. Another Austin icon place is gone!
