The movie's plot revolves around a notorious Italian criminal named Aldo Vanucci, played by Peter Sellers, who is also known as "The Fox." Vanucci is a master of disguise and has a talent for pulling off daring heists. In this film, he hatches an ambitious plan to steal a shipment of gold bullion worth millions of dollars.

To execute his plan, Vanucci disguises himself as a film director and convinces a group of unsuspecting actors and crew members to unknowingly participate in his criminal scheme. The heist involves using a fake film production as a cover while diverting the gold to a waiting cargo ship.
