Description
We share so much with people from the past, people we never knew and talked to, but ones we could connect with if we had.
Consider mornings, for example. All of us, throughout humanity, experience mornings. Nowadays, it may be with a tinny sound from our digital phone, alerting us to get up and go about doing our “modern” things.
Or our mornings may be quieter, calmer, an opportunity for us to think upon the day to come, reflect upon the one before, and decide to try something different, or pursue more deeply something we have tried before, to change, or to continue walking our same path, to explore and wonder and seek.
This is what the woman in the artwork, A New Day Dawns, is doing. Standing behind the decorative balustrade at the edge of the city, Polignano a Mare in Apulia, southern Italy, she closes her eyes and lets the warmth of the morning sun brush lightly across her face. She looks out into the expanse of the Adriatic Sea, and in the same way that the water extends beyond her sight, out into the depth of the horizon, so also does her morning, her day, her life.
Her stance is relaxed as she leans into the sunlight, her hands gently resting on the railing. It is as if she is drinking in the light, allowing it to completely and totally fill her, lighting the deepest reaches of her heart and soul.
Of what does her day consist? What are her plans? What is her life like?
That’s a question we wonder about all through history, isn’t it? What were the lives of others like, how did they feel, what did they do and why? And it is a question we ask ourselves: What is our day, our life, our purpose, our meaning?
Every morning, every dawn, is a new opportunity to ask and seek, to change, to move forward, to live. And to close our eyes and let the sunlight brush lightly across our face.

Steve this is such an exquisite painting and one that touches my heart very much. The light the dawn, purpose, the warmth of a new sun. Your description is like reading a wonderful poem and in that poem the word purpose rings out to my heart. Without hope and purpose my life would be so sad. Thank you a million times for this painting and all of your artwork. A Master Artist you are and you have much to say and share with us all.
Steve Henderson replied:
Thank you, Carolyn, for those thought-filled. I am very gratified that you enjoy this artwork and its accompanying description and that this marriage of paint and words shines a light on your soul. The words that describe each painting on our site are written by my wife and business partner, Carolyn. Her words go beyond just mere description -- they do indeed often read like poetry. She writes, I paint. A nice way to run a business.
