The template to this helmet can be found in the so called "maciejowski bible".
This museum quality -3mm strong- Helmet is an authentic recreation, was done in month long painstaking work by a real blacksmith by hand and is my own property.
Wikipedia says:
... also called the Crusader Bible or Maciejowski Bible, is a medieval picture Bible of 46 folios. The book consists of paintings of events from Hebrew scripture, set in the scenery and customs of thirteenth-century France, depicted from a Christian perspective. Scenes are surrounded by text in three scripts and five languages: Latin, Persian, Arabic, Judeo-Persian, and Hebrew.
Forty three folios are kept in the Pierpont Morgan Library. Two folios are kept in the Bibliothèque nationale de France. A single folio is kept in the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles.

After shooting at the Hoboken waterfront, my friend a I decided to take a short ride to Jersey City to shoot from the Newport Pier while there was still an intense fog enveloping the surface of the Hudson River and the Lower Manhattan Skyline. We were not disappointed, as the skyline took on an ethereal and gothic aura. To further enhance this visual, I decided to process it in Black & White.

An armored knight from the teutonic order in historic correct mid 13th century outfit. This is my own armour btw and the chainmail was handmade and riveted ring by ring by myself. I am from the field of reenactment and experimental archaeology with 12+ yrs of experience and all my knowledge went into this armor. The helmet is a recreation of a found near "Dargen"(Germany), the surcoat is made of linen/canvas and the cloak is made of wool. Size, design and position of the crosses as well as used materials and armour was researched in historic sources.
The order dates back to 1190 when it was founded by citizens of Bremen and Luebeck (Germany) outside Akkon/Akko in Jerusalem. The order was founded as a hospital and changed in 1198 into an armored brotherhood of knights / monks (they were both). They carried the black cross on white ground on shields and cloaks / surcoats.

Remnants Of The Grapes Of Wrath John Steinbeck Quote
If you take River Road out of Soledad California and drive across the farm fields towards Carmel, you will see many remnants of the 1940 Steinbeck, Grapes of Wrath era. This is just one of them.
The owner of this old bard, back in the Grapes of Wrath era, housed his farmworkers in this old barn and others on his property and he allowed them to take whatever food they needed to feed their families.
This old barn is still owned by the same family that has owned and farmed the land for over a hundred years.
I was by there a few weeks back (July of 2016) and the building has totally caved in from the center and only the extreme left and right walls are still standing.

Iconic still life of the short sword (Gladius) and helmet of a roman Legionnaire. A sharp and pointed blade and a good helmet combined in one image make for a cool still life photo.
The original helmet (Typ Italic G) was found in a cave near Hebron. There is much evidence that the helmet was lost during the Bar-Kochba insurrection (132-135 AD). Typical of this helmet is the iron crossbar. These crossbars appeared, often later, in the early 1st century. AD. Just at the time of the Emperor Trajan's wars against the Dacians

A heavily detailed, highly textured portrait of Michelangelo. Even though he did not consider himself a painter, Michelangelo's work on the Sistine Chapel ceiling is one of the most incredible art installations I have been fortunate to witness. Two references for this drawing, the portrait of Michelangelo by Jacopino del Conte, and from Michelangelo's Creation of Adam portion of the Sistine Chapel (Adam is somewhat hidden within this drawing!).

Woodberry, a neighborhood in Baltimore City, is one the US's largest and earliest remnants of the old Industrial Revolution with buildings dating back to the late 1700's. The surviving old mill buildings and worker's houses are still in daily use, although the uses are quite different from what they were in 1810. The area is somewhat isolated by its location, nearly underneath an interstate highway and down in the flood prone Jones Falls Valley, so once you find the place, you might think that you lost a couple centuries along the way

I have been working on a 100 Days of Art Challenge and needing 10 black and white minimalistic pieces for a thing in the fall have been making some for the art challenge as well. Probably should have called this something about two birds ... although I don't condone killing birds. That's a joke. I do love doing minimalistic work. At first it seems so simple but the very simplicity of it is what makes it at times agonizingly difficult.

Raindrops, ripples and reflections, Railway Pond, Dringhouses, York, England, United Kingdom, January 2021. Out for a walk, on a day when I saw few good photo opportunities at the pond, a light rain began to fall. A coot had made some ripples, and some trees were reflected in the water. Black and white version of colour original.

This piece of artwork is an artistic representation of the Chinese character for OX (牛). It was using Chinese traditional ink handwritten on good rice paper and It was a seal script style (1122 - 221 B.C.) in Chinese calligraphy. In this stone carving calligraphy art, you can feel the wisdom of the ancients. 2021 is the year of OX.

The Prophet Jeremiah
Day 70 of the 100 day 2021 art challenge.
My reference for this sketch was from the work of MICHELANGELO. This is a detail of his SISTINE CEILING painting of the PROPHET JEREMIAH. It is simply one of tne of the most amazing displays of art I have ever been lucky enough to witness in person. This DRAWING is my interpretation.
About 45 minutes of working with pencils on paper. Your comments are welcome.

One of the many trails at the Quabbin Reservoir in central Massachusetts. Four towns in the Swift River Valley were disincorporated and became flooded by the seven year fill. Over 7,000 graves were relocated. All buildings in the four towns, save for the old Prescott Town Hall, were dismantled. All trees were cut down. And, in 1938, the towns of Enfield, Prescott, Dana, and Greenwich, were no more.

This one plays with lines and shapes. It's the brutalist Baltimore County court building in Towson, MD, a rather Kafkaesque structure. With its sun-bleached beige concrete finish, black and white seemed real obvious for this one. I was just walking past there and the late day sunlight hit at the right moment to make all those lines work.

Mattamuskeet Refuge is an odd place. The building in the drawing is part of a venture to create a sort of canal waterway to drain water from the lake exposing nutrient rich farmlands. The building houses a pumping system. The Mattamuskeet Lake is not fed by any springs, just rainwater runoff. It is actually below sea level. So the pumps were used to raise the water to a canal where it would drain to the Pamlico Sound. It worked for a few years.

Black and white seemed completely obvious for this one, the interior of a World War II B-29 bomber. The vast majority of all those period photos from that era were monochrome, so when I got this one, even though the aircraft is still flying for air shows, it seemed like it needed a vintage look.

And, another retro one, a moment with no cars visible in Baltimore's Woodberry neighborhood. Once the home of a considerable percent of American industry, this place became obsolete for a time and then became a destination for rehabbers and artists. I couldn't find any horses in the area, but otherwise, it could be back about 1885.

In honor of his retirement, I decided to do a portrait of Roy Willams. Now former head coach for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, before that Kansas University Jayhawks. Third winningest collegiate (mens) coach of all time, only coach to have over 400 wins at two schools.Three national championships. I have always enjoyed watching great, fundamentally sound basketball. That is a basic expectation when the Heels play. It will be interesting to see whether they can maintain their winning ways after this legendary figure is replaced. Congratulations on a remarkable run!

When my husband and I went to visit Athens, Georgia we stumbled upon a diner called the The Grill and it was so retro. They had shelves of old school stuff like old coke and Pepsi bottles, old sesame street glass cups, small jukeboxes mounted on the wall, a lot of old cartoon items and so much more. It was pretty neat to see. Amazing food!
