Number 1. Acrylic painting on 9" X 12" canvas board.
Acrylic painting of my friendly aliens on a lovely yellow planet with a purple sky. They enjoy going places in their super fun flying saucers. And what big eyes they have! Those tall space pods are where they live. They get quite a view from up there, and they are safe from any danger, too.

Day 2, 8" X 10" Acrylic painting on stretched canvas.
My Tabletop Cat on a green background. My cat loves lying under the colorful George Nelson ball clock. His favorite color is orange, so of course his favorite of the balls are the orange ones. He loves how they perfectly match the flower pot. This is his favorite spot to rest during his busy day.
This is artwork 2 of my Create 100 pieces of artwork in 100 days challenge here at FAA.

These birds are always a treasure to see.

Day 3 - Mount Tamalpias in watercolor
There are so many wonderful destinations to enjoy the out of doors in the San Francisco Bay Area. This image is the view of Mount Tamalpias (on the west side of the bay) as seen from Point Pinole Regional Park (on the east side of the bay). I loved the way the eucalyptus tree framed the mountain with the dry grass and the blue water of the bay in between.

Watercolor painting of the lone cypress tree atop a rocky cliff. Below is the blue Pacific Ocean with white water crashing on the coastal rocks.
The tree & cliff glow with yellow & red of the setting sun.
Located on 17 mile drive in Pebble Beach this Monterey Cypress is possibly 250 years old & one of the most photographed trees in North America.

Painted Bunting in Spring
Watercolor painting of a boldly colorful male painted bunting. What a joy to see when they arrive at my Texas bird feeder mid March!
The adult male sports a blue head, red belly & rump, yellow green top & a rainbow mix of colors in the wings & tail feathers.
The female is beautiful with all green plumage. Soon after hatching, all fledglings have gray green color similar to the adult female.
An amazingly beautiful songbird!

Day 5 ... now I'm hungry!
Watercolor painting of a beautiful ripe red bell pepper, fresh & shiny! Classified as a fruit, it is often used as a vegetable.
These peppers are found in an array of bright colors. Red peppers pack the most nutrition, because they've been on the vine longest. It has the highest levels of Vitamin C of any produce item.

My reference for this sketch was from the work of REMBRANDT van RIJN's Portrait of a Girl painting. This is my interpretation.

14" X 11" acrylic painting on stretched canvas
This acrylic painting features my signature black cat. He loves visiting distant planets in the galaxy, and today he discovered this beautiful purple planet. Even its moon is purple! And the sky is a beautiful warm orange. He wishes planet Earth were these same colors because they are his favorites. He's pondering those tall space pods in the distance and wondering if it's safe to venture closer. Oh well, nothing ventured nothing gained!
This acrylic painting was my Day 6 entry in the 100 day challenge I'm participating in at FAA with other artists. We aim to do one new creation per day for 100 days.

DAY 6 Indian Blanket Flower
Watercolor painting of a single bloom. Frequent along roadsides in the Southwest, Indian Blanket wildflowers earn their nickname Firewheel. Colorful red orange petals with fringed tips of yellow.
Thanks to Lady Bird Johnson & her many beautification programs, the roadsides of Texas in Spring are filled with wildflowers.
Texas is mostly associated with Bluebonnets but my favorite is the Indian Blanket!
A beautiful showy Spring flower.

My reference for this sketch was from the work of Jacob JORDAENS' painting of THE FOUR APOSTLES. This is my interpretation. I love to incorporate emotion into the art that I produce, which is a big reason that I am drawn to the work of Jordaens, a pupil of Rubens.
About 1 hour of working with colored pencils, and a watercolor background on watercolor paper. Your comments and shares are welcome!

11" X 14 acrylic painting on stretched canvas
My black dog just loves his mid century modern Henry Glass chair. But then, blue is his favorite color these days. He thinks it's just the right color for the mod pod artwork. He even thinks the hanging George Nelson bubble pendant lamp would look better in blue, but oh well. He and his owners don't always agree on decorating. If they did, his owners would have certainly bought a black dog metal statue for the tulip table instead of that black cat metal statue.

Day 9 - "In Celebration of Snow"
Digital watercolor painting - A stand of pine trees decorated with colorful Christmas lights, covered in snow with more of the white stuff falling. Last I heard, the east coast has been buried in up to 3 feet of snow. Maybe people on the east coast don't really want to celebrate more snow, but here on the west coast it's a bit of a treat because we usually only get two or three brief snowfalls each winter.

Modeling for Matisse.
Day 9 of the 100 day 2021 art challenge.
For my reference, I selected a 1921 photograph of Henriette Darricarrére, a model of Henri Matisse, one of my favorite artists. This is my interpretation, utilizing a color palate that might be close to something done by Matisse. Thoughts, and shares are always welcome on my site. Thanks!

Day 9
Big Sur McWay Falls
Pen & watercolor painting of McWay Falls painted in an impressionism style. This iconic waterfall on the coast of Big Sur California is a must see while on a scenic drive along highway 1. Fed by McWay Creek, the water slides 80 feet down cliffs into the Pacific Ocean.
As the sun begins to set, rocks cast shadows onto the water & sandy beach. Light fog on the horizon catches some of the pink sunset.
Gentle waves accent the beautiful blue shades of sea & white foam. The surrounding hills are a mixture of grey & tan rocks with green brush & evergreen trees.

My signature black cat loves curling up in his black Eero Aarnio ball chair. He thinks it's super space age looking and ever so comfy. This one took some hustle to get done. It took a while to complete. This is the beautiful Joplin Grand Falls in Joplin Missouri, USA. I took the waterfall photo on a late fall day. A watercolor image of a young girl in a vibrant and colorful swimsuit playing in the sand of the local lake beach on a hot summer's day. The acrylic painted splash is top left side. Below that, is my 3D modeled version. The colour 3D sculpts are what I created from the 3D model.
The texture they're cloaked in is from 'Nocturne', in my FAA & Pixels portfolio.
I love the process of creating elements like this to incorporate in my compositions.
The colour piece on the bottom makes for a great psychedelic iceberg. I've made many terrains like this over time
— been into 3D digital modeling since 2010. The Manitoba Arts Council has been very generous in support of my projects.

Tropical Beach Hammock
This tropical beach watercolor painting is all about relaxing in paradise! A secluded ocean cove of calm turquoise blue water off a sandy beach with a hammock strung between two palm trees.
Imagine swimming in the warm calm bay & relaxing suspended in the shade of palm fronds, swinging with gentle sea breezes.

My signature black cat reclines on the tabletop. He knows he's not supposed to be up there, but when I leave the room up he jumps! I'm not sure what attracts him. Is it the little green plant in the turquoise blue footed planter, or the colorful George Nelson starburst clock? I don't know, but it's hard to get angry at him when he looks so darling.

After I did the Calligraphy on this I took a match to the edges to add a unique burnt effect....I might have been crazy to do that as I could have lost hours of work! For this challenge I made the border all black and added a slight expressionist effect, but the words are totally readable still.
Calligraphy of Psalm 23 The Lord is my Shepherd with a slightly abstract Expressionistic effect added digitally.

Portrait of a young Frida Kahlo. The biggest influence that Frida Kahlo's work has had on me isn't about a style of work, it is in the way she used her imagination to create incredibly personal art. I think the more I can strive to do that, the better I will become. Portrait on paper with brown pencil.

Red Coral
This watercolor painting shows a red coral close up with beautiful texture. When I snorkel or dive in the ocean, I love to focus on the amazing detail of sea life.
Coral reefs are a bouquet of color & shapes. Each reef starts with individual coral polyps that secrete limestone skeletons. Polyps & their calcareous skeletons connect to one another creating a colony. Colonies connect & slowly reefs are formed.
Similar to the mass of cells that make up our body, coral reefs are alive.
Nature is amazing!

Die hard mid century modern enthusiasts will no doubt recognize the starbursts in the wall art above the chair. Starburst is a line of dinnerware produced by Franciscan Ware.
