At the very least, depending on the lens type, if it fails to work, you can use it as a reverse macro. That's a good use for primes anyway. Kind of bulky to use though.
I would ask tamron what the average price is, but if I recall it costs like $12-20 to send it (depending on insurance), they check it for free, but if you don't choose to pay for the repair, they charge you return shipping and don't fix it. It just depends on what the retail is, if you wanted it retail and if repairing it is really worth it. They usually answer their mail though.
