First attempt:

Wall Art

Deep in the forest of the old kingdom of Falaichte sits the fabled spring of Draoidheachd, rumored to grant any wish, just by taking one sip of its enchanted waters. It was guarded by the king's most secret guard, highly trained in the art of medieval warfare, ordered to guard it with his life.

One day, a peasant adventurer by the name of Ùr Ridire, hailing from the village of Soilleir, came upon this enchanted spring. He had heard many stories of it, and had been searching for it for a long time, hoping to have his dearest wish granted. He was immediately challenged by the guard and swords were drawn. Although Ùr's sword was of less quality than the guard's, and his armor far inferior, he was far more nimble and quick, being able to move easier without the weight of the gleaming metal armor as a hinderance. Thus, he bested the knight and threw up his hands in victory.

Sadly, when he made his wish and took a sip, he learned the awful truth. This spring did not grant wishes. Instead, all it did was turn people to stone. Ùr remains beside the pool today, nothing more than another statue in the pool's growing collection of them.

Ooh someone's been to the renaissance fair. The last time I was at one, half the people there dressed randomly. Like in ninja outfits or pirates or wizards. Its like no one knew how to dress. But they all like calling each other wench while eating an overly cooked turkey leg or fried pickle as they did in that era.

Cool challenging image, thanks Abbie!

We have/had (?) a very authentic rennaisance fair in Norman Oklahoma where a lot of the troupe would live it all year long and travel around the country doing other fairs too. I am not sure how the pandemic affected it or if they even still do it.

Off to start my first edit. :)

Second attempt:

High in the mountains of a far off kingdom, the ruins of an ancient tower stand. The tower is said to hold the greatest treasure known to man, and many have tried to reach it. On this fateful occasion, four men have come to seek the treasure within. They did not come together, and greed quickly took over when they caught sight of each other. They drew swords and fought in an epic battle that saw the lone peasant man emerge victorious.

The three knights succumbed first to exhaustion, having climbed the high and treacherous mountain while wearing full suits of armor. The peasant raised his hands in victory before turning and continuing his journey to the tower, still in the distance.

What did the peasant find when he entered the tower at long last? Was his perilous trek worth the effort? What do you think?

My first entry

Slayer of the Beast

Wall Art

A make believe medieval fantasy battle between a magus wizard and a beast called a wyvern, also known in modern times as a dragon. The scene takes place in the ruins of a renaissance castle fortress on a dark day as the hero magician conjures up fire from the sky and channels it into a laser accurate beam hitting the behemoth on the head and penetrating to his brain stem taking him down in a flash of electrical power. The beast slayer stands with arms raised in victory as the serpent crumples to the ground in defeat.

I created this compilation photo manipulation for the faa edit this 63 contest hosted by Abbie Shores using the photo she provided and elements from three other photos courtesy of Pixabay. I then merged them all together and added my artistic effects to create a digital painting style for the final image.

My third attempt:

Wall Art

In a far away king's rose garden lives a group of people known as the Miniknights. Growing no more than a few inches tall, these people use flowers as homes. Only the best of the best of them are able to live in roses, but there is always the fear of being ousted in a battle.

This rose is called the Rose King's palace. The former rose king has been defeated and his successor raises his hands in victory. One of the former king's guards falls off the rose palace in the background.

Radical Renaissance Dream
Edit this 63 for Abbie Shores. Thank you, Abbie.
A Radical Renaissance Dream. A dream of reading a novel about empowerment that took this woman back to the Renaissance Period. Her fantasy of a dual was achieved in her dream state. An empowering dream indeed. The old knight looks on as the other knight falls from the book. What a dream.

The game of chess is more than just a board game. Chess represents war, characters on the battlefield, win or lose. Chess is just the home game of war.

War really doesn't have rules, there are many ways to win a fight. The goal is to kill the king, and which chess does have set rules, each piece can only move in so many directions, but war you have a lot more freedom and you are only limited by your creativity.

For example in this game, there was a successful battle, many pieces were eliminated. The other side won, by sneaking in a person from the other side, disguised as one of their pawns. He killed the knights, and eventually the king ran off.

However the other side also had a plan, and did something similar, they snuck a Medusa head in and turned the king to stone, so technically they won.

Abbie Shores' Edit Challenge 63 (1st entry)...
Since the original scene depicted a battle of knights (such as seen in a Renaissance Festival), I decided to turn the victor into a Jedi Padawan rebel including a double lightsaber in his hands. I also added a Tie Fighter being pursued by an X-Wing from Starwars. It looks like he might be headed back to the Death Star!

My entry number two: King Victor Rex Renaissance Dinosaur or "Where's the can opener?"

Sell Art Online

A fantasy artwork in a far away make believe land where dinosaurs roamed among men. The scene is joined at the end of a terrible battle on a stormy day between armored knights with swords and the king of dinosaurs Tyrannosaurus Rex. Rex is proud to be the victor after the brave men put up a valiant fight to the death but could not overcome the power of the monster beast.

A humorous alternate title for this piece would be "Where's the can opener?"

I've been playing around with looking at the image from a different point of view, by simply rotating it.

I may work a little more on the shadowing, and perhaps grass that's a little more in scale. with a slight perspective

Abbie Shores' "Edit This Challenge 63" (2nd entry).

In this version, I added a a castle, flying birds above it, dragon (with shadow), and put the original "Player" on the dragon to ride it as if it was public transportation. I added a sign over the fellow sitting indicating the area is a "Dragon Stop". The dragon rider is holding both arms up in victory after slaying the armored warriors laying on the ground.

The King has made public transportation really difficult these days!

My 3rd entry into Abbie Shores' "Edit This 63" challenge.

In this version, I added a Wizard with a lightning bolt from his magic staff striking and disabling an armored opponent. I also added a female centaur, fairy, Bernie Sanders (as his iconic meme, sitting with his legs crossed with mittens and face-mask from the presidential inauguration. I added shadows and a crescent moon as well. I titled it, "With A Little Help From My Friends".

Train Robbers' Lament

It sounded like a good plan: Dressed in armor. Swords at ready. Jump the train. Steal the strongbox with the government checks.

But they didn't count on the rain.
The deck of the train was slipperier than they expected and their metal boots had no grip.

First one fell off; then, the other.
The third man couldn't run fast enough to mount the train and surrendered upon seeing his cohorts' crumpled bodies laying in the gravels.
That could have gone better.
