Colorful foliage makes visiting Rainbow Falls in autumn a must-do if you're anywhere near Watkins Glen State Park in the Finger Lakes. This area of central New York is known for it's beautiful waterfalls and gorges, often with the wonderful patterning in the sedimentary rock seen here.

The Perilous Path To Heaven paints an allegorical image of the challenging journey one must take to reach the promised land. Depicted are all manner of dangers, distractions and temptations the traveling pilgrim is likely to face along the way - crashing waves, foundering boats, jagged rocks, earthly riches, the disapproval of others, a place to stop and rest. At the top of the image, in the background, the entrance to heaven is seen. Here there is help for the weary but triumphant traveler who is met with outstretched arms of welcome. Religious symbolism.
