While I love chocolate and other candy I also love the idea and the hashtag.

I plan on posting some new Valentine's day art this or next week and will use #buyartnotcandy for those on my social media :-)

I'm in 100%, yes! Anecdotally I was misdiagnosed with lupus when I was 10 and was on prednisone for two years...to this day I believe the terrible pain I experienced was due to my very high sugar intake as a kid, not lupus.

Anti-one thing to promote something totally different doesn't make a lot of marketing sense.

Chickfila runs anti-beef ads to promote more chicken sales but at least the comparison is apples to apples (food to food).

A better tact would be "art lasts longer than...flowers, candy, candles, your boyfriend" but the true competitor is jewelry which lasts a long time.

I am absolutely in, Sharon!!!! I'm pre-diabetic, and have been for years, controlled through diet. I fell off the wagon for the holidays, but am about to hop back up on the horse (sorry, I love to mix metaphors!) ... and your idea really hits home!!!

They aren't totally different Edward...Both are bought as gifts (gift to gift). I would estimate that 75% of the art I sell is for GIFTS! We want them to see art as equally as enticing for Valentine's Day gifts.

The objective is NOT for people to see how long art lasts. It is to get people to see that candy (i.e. typical Valentine's Day gifts) aren't the only option.

It also helps people to "think outside of the box"....instead of the same ol same ol....I've already gotten a lot of positive feedback on my personal FB page. I like to run my ideas by my people most of whom also collect art. :)

The strange thing is in the UK we do not expect Winter to arrive until later in the month. It is often late February early March where it is at is worst.
This year it will probably be April; knowing our luck.
The last comment will probably only understood by someone living in the UK.

I'm up for starting the Spring hashtag earlier, even though we're supposedly going to get a snowstorm here in the next day or two. I think at this point it's a bit late to order stuff for Valentine's day anyway (though I'm not sure what FAA's delivery timelines are, so maybe I'm wrong).

#ThisSpringBuyArt (Still unused on Twitter) offers us a longer promotion time than the Buy Art Not Candy hashtag, so i can’t see why not regarding starting our Spring campaign early.

The above hashtag speaks not only of a coming season, but would still be relevant during Springtime.

I’m sure we have noticed lots of etsy sellers using the #BuyArtNotCandy hashtag, not many of them retweet others tweets in the way we do.

I don’t mind regardless, as long as we all stick together and continue promoting each other then we will continue to get a lot of exposure.

Sharon feel free to tweet the first tweet using the above hashtag, then we will follow your lead on this.

People here, in New Jersey, are ready for spring even though there's a huge amount of snow on the ground. I think the mood is right to start the spring campaign.

Hi everyone, my hours are later to start, but RT late. Agree with Jodi, seeing more Spring images coming through. Doing Valentines through Saturday/Sunday I agree with Sharon as well about Spring. People are tired of winter and snow. Going to finish up with hearts on Sunday. Will RT for all of you!!

I don't think it is too early...I sold all of my Valentine's Day pieces up till 3 days ago...crickets since. I think the Pandemic has gotten people to order things earlier because there are not long delays sometimes. And it has also gotten us to be more focused on our homes since we spend more time in them!

Good idea as Im diabetic I can smell the sweet stuff filling the shops somehow..flowers are better options of course for Valentines day but people tend to put flowers and chocolates together on Valentine's day in Britain and pictures of flowers or Valentines designs make a good alternative choice as there are many on FAA of what type of art work picture to buy whereas a romantic setting too could be a good subject. The many accessories on FAA also make great gifts with these popular subjects in mind. A great abstract for your main wall with a romantic theme is another option.
