As the pandemic gets better under control, I know a lot of people can't wait to travel again. Post images of your favorite travel destinations that you have visited with a travel tip for others who are considering traveling there in the future. All media types are allowed as long as a travel tip is included with your image. There is no daily limit on posts as long as you wait until another artist posts before posting again. Here is an example:
Isla del Sol on Lake Titicaca, Bolivia
Travel Tip: You can get there by boat from Puno, Peru, but I recommend that you don't hit the bars there the night before your boat ride. ;-)

Strokkur is one of Iceland's most famous geysers, erupting every 4 - 8 minutes, 15 to 40 meters high. Strokkur is part of many Golden Circle Tours, which means lots of tourists. Be sure to visit very early or very late if you want to avoid the masses. In summer you will have fantastic light - day and night :-)

Once we were both fully vaccinated we felt comfortable with a couple of road trips. The first was to the fascinating Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island, Georgia. The Island is a State Park so there is a small entrance fee. Driftwood Beach, however, is free and is wonderfully walkable - except at a very high tide. The sand is flat and well compacted. Here is a sunrise image...

California coastline. Summertime can be foggy, but usually burns off by the afternoon. Avoid crowded weekends & holidays.
Drive down, north to south, Pacific Coast Highway 1 so it's easy to pull off for stops & back on.

I see another post above about Iceland. I second Matthias' tip about walking behind the Seljalandsfoss waterfall - I did that as well, but that trip was before I really got into photography so my photos aren't that great. I recommend visiting the town of Vik as well as the Reynisfjara black sand beach (but do NOT swim in it!). Also, when I went, I stayed in Reykjavik and did bus tours out of there... they were interesting, but felt extremely rushed, so I'd recommend just renting a car and doing a self-driving tour around the island.

Besides seeing the "Bean" in person when you travel to Chicago, be sure to visit the Art Institute and see the Thorne Miniature Rooms exhibit. I nearly missed them! Our hotel was within walking distance and I visited the Art Institute several times. Then on my way out the front door I noticed a hallway to my right, and went to see what was down it. Oh my! It was the many Thorne rooms, done in miniature. Amazing to see! Here is a link to them: https://www.artic.edu/highlights/12/thorne-miniature-rooms

When visiting the Mississippi Gulf Coast be sure to take the Ferry to West Ship Island. There are beautiful, natural, unspoiled beaches as well as the historic Fort Massachusetts.

If you go to Costa Rica, be sure to check out the Osa Peninsula, in the southernmost part of the country. You can take a small plane (a 40-minute flight) from San Jose international airport to the little airport in Puerto Jimenez. You don't have to go to the well-known Corcovado National Park in order to see amazing wildlife...it is literally everywhere. I found that you could get much closer to an amazing variety of birds without bothering them compared to the birds you see in North America.

I'm enchanted by the quaint fishing village of Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia. . .as are many other travelers! Hint: Stay at a bed and breakfast right in the village. (This was the view from our bedroom window.) Get up early to explore the village before 9:00 am when all the tour buses begin to arrive.

Newfoundland quilts
Newfoundland quilts hanging up to dry in the end of summer sun and breeze. I took this photo on Change Islands, a short ferry trip from Fogo Island - a picturesque unique village in the Atlantic Canada.
BTW, you can also see it and read more in my treasure hunt in Newfoundland travel blog: https://www.travelways.com/treasure-hunt-in-newfoundland/

Gros Morne Mountain Newfoundland
Gros Morne Mountain is one of the oldest mountains in the world, and because of that its so eroded that it appears more like a hill than a mountain. It is part of the beautiful Canadian Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a total unique place to visit.
You can also see it in my "Treasure hunt in Newfoundland" travel blog: https://www.travelways.com/treasure-hunt-in-newfoundland/

When I used to work in the Alaska and Yukon Territory, autumn was my favorite time there. I recommend travel in mid-August to early September. You can see fall colors, the fireweed turning red, and bears foraging before their winter hibernation. The mosquitoes aren't as bad as early in the summer. Also, you have a chance of seeing the Northern Lights if you are lucky. Most hotels offer a Northern Lights wake up call to alert you if they are visible so you can go out in your pajamas and view them.

Luxor Hotel Las Vegas lobby - Digital Media
If you go to Las Vegas, don't miss to enter to the Luxor Hotel, even if you don't stay stere! The walls are inclined and the balconies stick out more as they go up. The lobby is decorated with Egyptian artifacts, immense statues replicas of what you can find in Giza, and palm trees. It's just a wonder built as a tourist attraction in the city of gambling.

Peru's capital Lima often gets overlooked by tourists in a rush to visit Cusco and Machu Picchu. It has some superb museums, the historic centre is a UNESCO heritage site and it is regularly voted the best food tourism destination in South America. In the southern summer (Dec to April) the weather is hot and sunny; in the winter (the most popular time to visit the Andes) sea fogs cover the coast and make it less appealing

Death Valley from Dantes View
I took this photo from the Dante's View point, at springtime when the nature was blooming, and small desert flowers where almost everywhere. This is the best, and I would say the only good time to visit the Death Valley, considered to be one of the hottest places on Earth.

If Iceland's on your bucket list (from the US), you can build up to a 3 day layover into an IcelandAir itinerary for transatlantic flights from the US to Europe. So, you can fly US to Iceland, spend 3 days in Iceland, and continue on to your European destination for the same price you would pay to go directly to Europe...

Visiting Las Vegas? Don't miss the "Heart Attack Grill" On Fremont Street Experience, right at the foot of the Slotzilla Zip Line. It's the only restaurant in the world where the waiters and customers have to wear hospital gowns. The food is of course unhealthily, but you can have some fun :)
I described more more about this experience in my vegasgreatattractions.com blog: https://vegasgreatattractions.com/heart-attack-grill-downtown-las-vegas-a-cool-satire-to-unhealthy-foods/

The Drăgan lake behind the dam and its neighborhood in bird's eye view. The Drăgan lake from the Apuseni mountain range (Romania) is an artificial reservoir behind a 109 m tall dam, erected downstream of the confluence of the Drăgan and Sebeșel rivers. The lake is a picturesque place and feeds a hydro-electrical power plant which is a source of renewable energy.

As travel restrictions ease, I took a trip out to Calgary to visit a couple of long-time friends last week. I had been to Banff National Park twice before - once when I was around 10, and once in 2010 when I only had maybe an hour or two in the evening, which wasn't nearly enough time. There's so much gorgeous scenery to see that I ended up doing the 1.5-hour drive there three times during the week.
The best advice I can think of is to plan to have enough time, and take all the time you planned for. Enter Banff at the southern end around Canmore, stop at the various lookout points to admire the scenery, bring a bathing suit and go for a dip in one of the natural hot springs, put your feet in at least one of the glacial lakes (I recommend Moraine Lake - it's prettier than Lake Louise and less crowded, though it's also less accessible), and drive the Icefields Parkway all the way up to Jasper National Park. It's about 5 hours of driving between Calgary and Jasper though (one way), so plan it as a multi-day journey.

A major bucket list item was checked when I visited Israel and saw this majestic view from the Mount of Olives overlooking the Holy City of Jerusalem. I took this life-changing tour in November of 2009, when my parents celebrated their 50th Anniversary.
I have read that April and May are some of the best times to visit Israel, as that is when the spring flowers are in bloom and the weather is pleasant before the hot summer months.
***** For a private tour of Israel, I highly recommend my friend Doobie Sabbo, who is an excellent and experienced Tour Guide.

In case this thread is closed before I post again, I want to thank everyone for submitting their fantastic travel images. You have given me a lot of ideas for future trips!
If you visit Kauai, Poipu and Waimea, the southern part of the island will give you a better chance for dry and sunny days.

Cute little Mexican green church with a red door and an orange tree in front, behind a white painted brick fence, in Yucatan, Mexico. I photographed it in the rural Mexican area, in a small village of the Yucatan peninsula, while traveling from Campeche to Izamal, in a warm sunny day. * It's always warm and sunny in Mexico, especially in the Yucatan peninsula :) Both Campeche (on the Caribbean sea) and Izamal are wonderful to visit. I don't remember if there was a highway in between these two towns, but I always take the country roads. Well, if you want to see more things, that not everybody sees, than traveling on the country roads is the answer :)

The Cies Islands off the coast of Galicia in northwest Spain have beautiful beaches and hikes. There are daily ferries from the port of Vigo, in summer they can get v crowded at weekends, less so during the week, there is also a campsite should you want to stay for sunrises / sets. Bad weather and Atlantic storms can make winter visits a challenge, this is not a winter sun destination like the Mediterranean.....

I had the rare chance to see these majestic swans in their mating ritual on the Rhine River (Breisach, Germany). It was almost like a ceremony in the swan world. I didn't know, but apparently in Europe (in this case Germany), if you are near a river at spring time, you can see those huge beautiful birds performing for you for free... :)
Read more about this in my blog: https://www.travelways.com/nuptial-dance-rhine-river-germany/
