A Breath Of Fresh Air…

A brilliant yellow giant sunflower just on the verge of bursting into a profusion of nourishing seeds stands majestically against a blue blue sky decorated with squiggling embellishments of summery delight.

Sunflowers Cheer Me Up

This large yellow sunflower was photographed in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Their bright yellow faces add cheer and sunshine to our lives. You may not know that not only are their seeds edible, but their flowers and leaves can also be eaten if grown organically.

I am fascinated by fasciation, an odd mutation that causes "cristate" or crested growth on many plant species. Here is a photo of an otherwise "normal" Organ Pipe cactus sprouting 2 new cristate arms from its center. It's growing in the Sonoran Desert near the Mexican border.

A. If I was growing a crop of carrots, I would want them to be a healthy lush green.
