Facebook Pages - Classic Vs New Layout

Facebook has been rolling out a new layout of Facebook pages. No more likes only following. It looks very much like the profile pages, with the avatar smack in the middle of the cover pic.

The Shop Now button is more discreet; no longer blue. It is more streamline. I switched to the new but then went back to classic.

Have you switched over yet?

Are you talking about our fan pages, Jessica? I just dismiss the pop-ups. I don't want to bother until they force me. The avatar smack in the middle of art banners is an issue. They don't care. I still hate the new general layout. Every time I share something, I have to go in and change the audience manually because they don't give you the choice in the popup.

There would be a notice waiting for you that says: in the next few days you'll se a new experience. you can switch to the new layout or dismiss it.

I've had a "new" look for quite a while. Is this yet another new one?

The current new look has been awful for performance.

Doug, I don't see your Facebook page since its not in your contact area. Do you have a fb business page? The new look just rolled out recently. No likes anymore, only following. If you have like on your page then its the classic version

Jessica - I use an alternate separate version of my regular FB self, post images manually. It's a different set of friends. I get likes and looks, and sometimes post images on my regular social "self" too. The new version is just so slow and doesn't seem to sequence things correctly and takes forever to add new posts. It really sucks and aggravates me all the time.

I really think that FB may be reaching some sort of critical level of dysfunction. Between being slow and filling my feed with ads that are irrelevant to my interests as well as all of the posts of my grouchiest, most politically toxic "friends", it doesn't seem to be all that useful any more.

So I really hate the new layout, since I switched it is very glitchy, I was thinking to switch back to classic.

and now when I wanted to do it, I found this if you switch back from the New to the classic one:

"Content you shared from your updated Page won't move back to the classic Pages experience. When you switch back to classic Pages, a file of your Page information from the new experience, including content you shared, will automatically be created for you to download. ...
...
When you update to the new Pages experience again, content you created from classic Pages will be preserved on your new Page, and content you had shared from your new Pages experience will be visible again. If you posted content again that was unavailable when you switched back to classic Pages, this content will appear twice when you return to the new Pages experience."

etc.

I am so frustrated with this now, and I mind very much that I didn't switch back straight.. I thought, eventually we all will be forced to use the new one, but I see in the other thread about FB shops, that everyone is with the old layout.

:( and now I would rather not to switch back, because I would loose numerous posts :/

FB ---- pfffff

anyone using the new layout and would like to convince me that is better?

That happens if you wait to long too switch back! I switched back right away. I didn't give it enough time to see if there were any glitches.

What do you mean by very glitchy? In what way? I understand there is no more SHOP NOW button, only VIEW SHOP and thats for fb shops you create.

I did it wrong, I should have do it straight to switch back, but I thought, whatever, eventually we have to, so better to do it, than get that pop up messages.

when you have the new layout you have to switch from the personal profile to the page and vica versa many clicks. And when I do something on my page, and want to go back to my profile, lots of time, my profile became invisible. It is not giving to option to click on your own profile and manage it.
I mean on phone.
Lot of time, I go and use the FB Lite App, (which I also hate lol because look very clumsy) but I have to, to use my profile, because I just dont find it, is not there as an option, only my page at the switching.
Even if I sign out then in, or switch off my phone and on again.
Then sometimes I can see both, without problem.

When I share on the new layout, sometimes the new posts are not visible. I need to go to my computer of to the Fb Lite to see if I posted at all. Many times it says that unsuccessful posting.

Then I want to share from my profile to my page, and it is not offering my page as an option to share to. Says I dont have a page..
So if I want to share from page to profile, I need to go to my profile, search for my own page, and share, like a visitor.
If I want to share from my profile to my page, I need to go first to my page, and search for myself, like I would share from someone, but not myself.

I hope I could explain.
it makes me crazy.
much more clicks, and sometimes not finding things.

when I see my page, "View As" it looks bad, seems I have a follow button, a tiny shop button like a little bag or something and a message icon, , but when I search my page as my profile, I can see I have a shop now button actually written shop now. So it is not even showing truly what visitors see. it is totally confusing..

I am generally very frustrated with FB now, gave so much time for it, and seems more and more invisible..

just now shared a post from my wp blog. and half an hour passed, and nobody reacted anything.. How come from 7k followers, nobody see it, or is that bad I was wondering?? So I deleted, and reposted the image, without the link to my wp blog and haahh in a minute 8 likes and 2 comments.
So FB just seems to hide everything with link in it, even in your own page, where you had some effort to collect those people.
you post a blog link, and nobody sees it from 7000 ? quite strange no? . :(
From 7k followers, only the same 2-3 commenting something on posts anyhow, so it is getting worse and worse.

With the new layout you have a new feed to see the activity of the pages, to interact as your page with other pages you follow. I believe if you dont interact as your page with other pages, you will just became invisible, that's all. So now means I should sit whole day long, interact as my profile, and separately as my page, if not, no one sees your posts anywhere.

I should make an experiment, what if not posting ANY links. Not on page nor on profile. maybe would do good for visibility. and just say, find link in BIO or somewhere, instead of post links. I dont know.
( Only thing works still is to share to groups, but then again with no links, and no spammy, like NOOO I am not selling lol, JUST showing my art, secretly hoping someone buys but I cannot say or they kick me out .. )

eh

"With the new layout you have a new feed to see the activity of the pages," I have that also with the classic view. I do everything from my PC never my phone.

It is true that the pages are seen by less and less people! I created an fb shop as another gateway to my premium site, since I no longer have The FAA shopping widget. And you can share your fb shop to a group, to a page, and it gives you a link as well.

More than before, it's increasingly apparent that FB is killing it's own golden cow by forcing crazy numbers of ads, delivered by a dog-slow interface. Now and again, I do pay attention to the ads out of a morbid curiosity and it's also obvious to me that their ad technology is soooo far off. The ads that are presumably targeted at me even get my gender wrong some times. I guess they have reached some sort of critical mass and, if they can't fix it, they will become decreasingly relevant.

Jessica. How do you set up a FB shop? Thanks.
Also, if you want to go back to classic how do you do it? I had tried to do it shortly after I changed to the new look,
but it either didn't let me change, or I was not doing it right.

Linda, hard to explain but on your page on the left side it says manage shop, if I remember. Then you go need to get it approved by fb before you can start.

Then it will say: Your commerce account has been approved
We have reviewed and approved your Commerce account. You can now publish edits to your shop in the Shops tab

Now that is with the classic page, so don't know if it's the same way with the new.

There's basically nothing in my news feed anymore except ads and paid posts from organizations and groups I've 'liked' in the past. Only a handful of friends post anything these days. People still look at the feed, and 'like' things, but that's all.

I keep reading that FB profits and ad revenue are going up. But that can't continue forever - this thing is clearly going to burn itself out. FB has become a mailbox stuffed with junk.

I don't understand how to add a "catalogue" of my products....I have to tackle it again when I am more alert and ready to learn.

A lot of people don't know it but FB doesn't show you posts from all of your "friends", just a small group that comes out of some algorithm they have, so, if you have 500 friends and notice that only 25 regularly show up on your daily scroll, it's because of that. You can go to the other people and see what they post, but they won't show up by default when you log in. If they did, there wouldn't be room enough for the crazy number of irrelevant ads that get pushed to you.

It's sad that, for all their techie calculations, they don't seem to know what the saturation point of users is. A human can and will only look at a certain number of ads and then you just blank it out of your consciousness. The less targeted they are, the worse it gets.

I got the notice and X'd. I have stayed with the classic, and has a gray "Edit Shop Now" button under my profile picture on my page. Click and has three choices, top one says "test button", it takes you right to my Website. Not changing anything. Has half my page with ads to change this add that and not touching any of it. Boost constantly pops up. I can only share so much, especially if sold something. Doug, I know I am not getting seen as much and missing a lot of friends that I know are not seeing my posts.

@ Jessica, learned to stay off my phone with Facebook, some personal things happened and staying on my computer like you!!

I'm not sure if I'm even talking about the same thing, but mine is now an ecommerce/selling page (or something like that)

Rose, I see your shop. When did you create it?

I have actually 4 of them, but this one is the one they converted to a commerce shop ( https://www.facebook.com/BuffaloWNYArtDecor4Sale ), I made that one about 2 years ago, or so...I think....but I need to figure out how to do a catalog.
