I knew exactly the film you were describing from just the first few words. The last scene where the little boy says, "Mama! We won!" has resonated with me for years.

Here's mine: A man lives alone in a trailer in the end. He treasures the only item left from his lover, which is a shirt that hangs in the closet.

One character says, “They’re not as tough as they think they are”. The other character says, “Neither are we.”

Alison Frank, indeed the ending stirred emotions in me that to this day when I think of that scene it brings tears of joy, & sadness. I am not sure though, of the movie u described but it sounds very interesting, I've probably seen every movie out there, specially foreign films which are my favorites, so I look forward to knowing the title of the one you mentioned. Tk u for your response.

Vivian, I'll wait to see if someone can guess mine. I'll reveal if no one gets it by tomorrow.

Ken Krug, I am not sure of the movie that your quote refers to, but, the line itself is thought provoking, hope u can give us more clues, & ultimately the name of the movie itself which I look forward to seeing. Tk u for responding.

Me old dad used to say "Get out of the toilet, and give someone else a chance!!!"

Okay, mine was Brokeback Mountain :)

I was absolutely bawling at this last scene:

And we fell in love with the theme song, The Wings by Gustavo Santaolalla

Wow Alison Frank, I loved that movie, as well as the theme song. I could not place the clue, that u gave since its been quite some time since I saw it, but I can see it now. Tk u so very much for sharing your thoughts.

Ken Krug

It was released in the late 1960s

Ken Krug, this is a guess, The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly?

Ken Krug

No, but good guess

OK, one more clue, they are robbers, and use too much dynamite in trying to blow up a safe at a train station and blow up the whole building.

. . .

Just watched an old trailer, it was a train the safe was in..

It was Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Paul Newman/Butch Cassidy replying to Robert Redford/Sundance Kid, or the reverse, but I think it was Newman replying.

Doug is describing Blazing Saddles.

Not sure about Jack's.

In the early 20th century a woman marries her lover's brother and begins an adventurous life far from her European home. Hint: It's a romanticized version of a true story. And my favorite movie of all time.

Out of Africa ?

Alison Frank

Susan, almost sounds like Legends of the Fall.

2 men are hired to protect a railway from predation. People are scared. People die and get more scared. One of the men gets killed, the other emerges victorious.

I am eager to wait till any of u can figure out names of these films, they sound intriguing. If I may, I'm adding 1 more on list (perhaps a tad controversial since its about how we have been used to eating a typical Western diet thinking its the best) (not myself since I am Vegan) yet how even Gladiators have been discovered to have been Vegetarians, & so an experiment was done with athletes to see which is best for our health.

Ken Krug, only one I can think of with an invisible friend, is 'Harvey' with the giant rabbit, (a Classic).

Ken Krug

Vivian, it is Harvey

Vivian Aaron

Yaay! Ken Krug, I was not sure, but happy I got it. Its an enchanting, thought provoking, Classic film.

Ken Krug

Vivian, enchanting is a good word to describe this film. Another one I’ll watch again sometime. I watched it many years ago, sometime in the ‘60s, and again around maybe fifteen years ago, maybe on TCM, Turner Classic Movies.

Indeed Ken, here is a clue for an easy one, an oldie but much fun, romantic comedy. A widower has 3 kids & hires a curvaceous, sexy Italian nanny, she is not telling anyone that she is actually just trying to escape from the rule of her strict rich father.

Two men prove the name of the movie was wrong all along on the first day they met

Vivian Aaron

Well, I will give one last clue till tomorrow to see if anyone got mine, the beautiful exotic nanny ends up going to a dance and she starts to dance with her boss, who happens to be engaged but the dance sparks their chemistry, they are living on a boat, which this last clue will surely give this away to those into old romantic comedies.

Ken Krug

Vivian, the only movie I can think of that sounds like that is The African Queen. I never watched the whole movie, so kind of an iffy guess, though it might be more of a different, more adventure kind of movie, looking at your first clue again..

Is Cary Grant in the movie by any chance? Something in my mind vaguely has an image of another boat movie..

Vivian Aaron

Ken, yes, Cary Grant is in it.

David,
I think that was not a one time plot.
The one I remember is Mel Brooks 'Life stinks'.

Thanks Rudi, I hadn’t seen that name in reading, is it used in the movie? Been a while since I watched it.. one of my favorite movies.

Doug Swanson

Two men, trapped in a building in a raging storm, are running out of food and booze start drinking turpentine. If things are not bad enough already, they are about to get worse due to a seagull's revenge.

The other day - "Somebody who delivers a knife as fast as his legs will carry him." - This one was Blade Runner.

Ken Krug

Doug, I should have guessed Blade Runner.. never watched it though.

Escapees go fishing off the Pacific Ocean coast. One of them sings “I’m Popeye the Sailor Man.. “ while piloting the boat. At another point he demands his confiscated cigarettes back.

Doug Swanson

Where is it; it was here? It blew away.

Ken Krug

Doug, another clue for that one?

Doug Swanson

Ken Krug

Gone With the Wind

Doug Swanson

Yep.

How about this one, could be a lot of movies with similar titles - They're about a mid-range Wallachian ruling class guy from long ago, a guy with a strange dietary habit.

Ken Krug

Dracula?
