The Chevrolet Motor Company was founded in 1911 by Swiss race car driver Louis Chevrolet, his brother and GM founder William C. Durant, who had been ousted from his own company. In 1918, Durant used the company to create a reverse merger with GM to regain control of his company. He was eventually ousted again, but Chevy remains a division of GM to this day.
