When the sun is coming to, or leaving the horizon this can have an incredible effect on a color photo. Some call this the magic hour, the blue hour, and the golden hour. The so called blue hues are the result of the sun being hidden on the horizon, but still lighting the scene. The golden hour is when the sun is visible and on the horizon resulting in browning, reddening, and yellowing some of the photo at times.
