Description
The petals of this fully bloomed pink rose undulate toward the viewer like waves on a beach about to crash. The size of the painting defies the sense of a small lovely flower, but the softness and color of the petals puts us inside to feel the energy of its expanding ripeness. Ride the wave! This painting was part of a series of pink paintings for my "Persistence of Pink" show this spring in Anacortes, WA.
For the past few years I've been painting flowers up so close that they envelope the viewer in their sensuality and rich color. Enlarged, they become almost abstractions from nature without seeing the outer shape or the environment around them.
This painting was juried into the Northwest Watercolor Society Waterworks show October 2017 showing at Tsuga Fine Art Gallery in Bothell, WA. The juror was Iain Stewart.
This watercolor is painted on a full sheet of 300# Arches Cold Press paper. It is framed with a a white metal contemporary frame. The painting floats on and archival backing to reveal the full deckle edge of the heavy paper. A Certificate of Authenticity comes with the watercolor signed by Sandy Haight. This painting was juried into the Northwest Watercolor Society Waterworks show opening in October 2017 in Bothell, WA.
My 2016 Skagit Valley Tulip Festival poster painting got the gold award from the International Festivals Association!
In 2012 I qualified to be a signature member of the Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS). This is earned by being juried into a select number of local chapter and international watercolor society shows sponsored by NWWS.
