Description
San Jose, Northern California, USA - Taken during a hike in Alum Rock Park, one of San Jose's oldest municipal parks. This path is located in the hot springs area of the park, and is many feet above the Upper Penitencia Creek. Alum Rock Park, founded in 1872, consists of 720 acres and is located in the foothills of the Diablo Range, at the eastern edge of San Jose. From 1890 to 1932 it was a nationally known health spa with 27 mineral springs; even today some of the grottos that were built to contain the springs are still accessible. Today the park is known for its hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, and picnicking, as well as being one of the sites of the Youth Science Institute. It's a great place to see many native trees and other plants, as well as animals and birds.
