One of the standout features of "The Sound of Music" is its stunning cinematography and set design. The film was shot on location in and around Salzburg, Austria, and the picturesque landscapes and historic architecture of the region are showcased beautifully.
The set decorator, Ruby R. Levitt, played a crucial role in creating the film's visually captivating world. She was Oscar-nominated for her outstanding work on the film and in recognition of her contributions to the film's success.
The film's iconic scenes include the opening sequence with Julie Andrews singing "The Sound of Music" on a lush hillside, the lively performance of "Do-Re-Mi" with the children in Salzburg, and the dramatic escape from the Nazis towards the end of the film. The movie is also known for its memorable songs, including "Edelweiss," "My Favorite Things," and "Climb Ev'ry Mountain."
