Description
The silver glow of moonlight peeks through a grove of poplar trees, inviting the evening walker to stroll through the silence and peace.
September Moon is a walk in the country on a balmy evening β one in which the cool crispness of autumn has not necessarily taken over. The leaves on the trees are just barely thinking about turning, but for the most part they are still green. It is a different kind of green, though, than what we find in the midst of summer: then, the foliage is lush, thick, verdant, and growing.
By September, though the leaves on the trees are still full, they have a slightly different β wilted? β look to them as nature thinks less about growing new leaves and branches and vines, and more about the colors she will use on her autumn palette.
September Moon takes place in that transition time between seasons β it is not quite summer, yet not quite autumn yet. The days are pleasant, the skies are blue, and in the evenings those same skies β deeper blue with the twilight β are still clear, and the moon shines full and bright.
This is a wonderful time for an evening walk on a country path. The air is still, the night is quiet, the stars overhead twinkle lightly but are difficult to see because the moon shines so bright. A silver glow lights up the landscape, and there is a magical, fantastical sense to the scene. One could almost imagine a Shakespearean comedy taking place here, complete with faeries, little people, princes and princesses, and the comedic foil that moves the play onward.
Or, if one wants to remain grounded in reality, one imagines the night life of the animals that live in the bushes and grass of the landscape, coming out cautiously after the viewer walks past, enjoying the sights and sounds and aurora of the September Moon.
(September Moon is a scene from eastern Washington farm country in the USA, but it could be a landscape anyplace, anywhere, that is quiet and tranquil, peaceful with the slightest whisper of magic and fantasy.)
