A fine piece that could have been so much better. Where's Clint Walker? Where's Robert Mitchum, Kirk Douglas, Sam Elliott, Jack Elam, where's Richard Widmark, Burt Lancaster and Anthony Quinn? I could go on and on, I know space is a factor in how many people can be put in a painting. One way to free up room is to eliminate the likes of Steve Martin, John Travolta, Billy Crystal, all of the "Dukes of Hazzard", Gene Wilder, Cleavon Little, Jerry Reed and for God sake what is Donna Douglas as "Elly Mae Clampett doing in this painting of a western saloon? Tom Laughlin as "Billy Jack"? Johnny Depp as Tonto? I doubt Dustin Hoffman would even recognize himself from "Little Big Man". Like I said, it could have been so much better.

Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey was released in 1968, which was about 8 years before I was born, so I have no firsthand knowledge of how it was received. If we'd have robot butlers and flying cars, geodesic lunar homes with sustainable gardens, and genetically reconstituted dinosaurs helping or eating the human population. But from Lost in Space to the Jetsons to Jurassic Park, it seems that popular culture craved and fomented this space-age perception of the future.
