Description
This drawing was one of about 50 drawings I had packed away as samples of marker drawings on vellum. It has been many years since I drew this. The details of what inspired me to do this drawing are little more than an advertisement that caught my eye on television or some magazine.
I was lucky in the fact that the school for this small farming community had small class sizes. 5 small towns in an area of approximately a 50 square mile radius brought the total number of my class to 55 people. With one art teacher that taught kindergarten through 12th grade. So I had the same art teacher from age 5 to the age of 18 when I graduated in 1980.
Well he had noticed my interest in art in grade school. He told me to start a reference file to use as a visual aid in future art projects. I began collecting photos from magazines like National Geographic and the cover of every TV Guide I could get. I believe the photo of a boat sailing into the sunset was originally a cigarette advertisement on the back cover of a TV Guide.
Now with access to the internet it's easy to find a visual aid using the correct keywords in your search. I guess that qualifies me as old school.
One note of interest in this drawing is one of many that has evidence where I messed up my signature. just behind the sailboat I can see a signature that I tried to blend back into the red background.
That was another lesson my art teacher thought was important, practicing my your artist signature!
Thanks for checking out my art!
