Description
This is the fourth demonstration piece for “Wind, Waves and Weather” 2007. The goal of this painting was to make everyone relax and to go bold and adventurous with their subject matter and paint.
The view is toward the north from the beach in front of Gerry’s Fast Foods at the foot of Beach Avenue in Southampton. I didn’t wish to paint into the sun and by now, the tops of my feet were getting sun burnt although I didn’t know it at the time. I spent my day walking up and down the beach helping as best I could. By the time we were finished painting around 4:30 pm... we were surrounded by bathers - plein air bathers!
This is bold subject matter for me as I don’t tend to put people in my art. Lynne is in the middle foreground, Denise has her back to me to the right. Fransisca is in the middle working on he bold island painting. Elizabeth is in the distance working on the willow. In between there are many, many plein air bathers who simple came and settled among us. I think they admired the work greatly and were happy to have us there painting. Some people asked to buy the painting. No one asked to purchase this although I was seldom at my easel and spent all my time with my artists. I was happy just to get the sketch half-way finished. I have linked parts of the painting to other effects... enjoy...
